When we went back to Hefei, I was on a mission – I wanted hot pot! Hot pot is a bubbling cauldron in which you cook your own meat, veggies and seafood. It is ultimately customizable- different kinds of soups – spicy, clear, tangy… with just about everything you could want to cook, from lamb to meatballs to tofu to veggies to noodles to prawns. It is yummy – and in Hong Kong very expensive.
When the weather gets colder we actually have our own pot that we can do it at home, but it is a bit of an event and we can’t do spicy as the kids won’t eat it. Thus, my mission.
We wound up going the first full day we were there for lunch to one of the up market chains – four different soups, lots of add ins, soy milk and sour plum juice, a sauce buffet where you can make your perfect dipping sauce, hot towels to wipe your face, toys for the kids and yummy, yummy results. I especially like lamb and potatoes cooked in the spicy broth but there is little (besides stomach) that I would turn away.
Cost for our party of four adults and three kids, less than $70 USD. It was completely worth it.
My craving had only been intensified though – as we left they gave us a bag of one of their dry soup bases for free. Anyone up for more hot pot?
